How the Brain Works

Your brain – that three-pound hunk of matter located between your ears – is the most sophisticated, complex, and miraculous piece of equipment ever known to humankind. It controls everything you see, say, feel, and do. With such a powerful tool at your disposal, isn’t it your responsibility to understand how it works and how to make it work optimally?

Here are some fundamentals.

First, it’s important to understand that you are nothing but energy. If you took a high-powered microscope and looked at the smallest, most fundamental pieces of matter – not atoms, protons, and electrons, but the minuscule neutrons, gluons, quarks, and mesons that these subatomic particles are made of – you would see nothing but little bits of electromagnetic vibrating waves of light. Those bits are what you’re made of, and your brain controls the vibration of every one of them.

Second, it’s important to know that your brain can grow new brain cells (or neurons) in a process called neurogenesis. Not so long ago, scientists believed that people were hardwired or born with genetic predispositions and makeup. But now when someone says, “That’s just the way I am, this is the way I was born,” we know they’re only half right. While genetic predisposition accounts for about half of your internal programming, the other fifty percent comes from behaviors, perceptions, beliefs, and habits you may have learned as far back as childhood and conditioned into your brain.

Here’s the good news: by understanding how your brain works, you can change your old conditioning and tap into your brain’s inherent genius to achieve your goals and dreams.

New Year’s resolutions are a total waste of time (for most people)

Why are New Year’s Resolutions a waste of time? Because they are not backed by the right mental preparation and conditioning.

I know that’s a bold statement, but let me ask you, how many years have you been making resolutions, only to find that within two or three weeks (any day now) you’ve given up?

The fact is, relying upon will power, resolve and persistence is absolutely the worst way to achieve your new goals. These things are controlled by your conscious mind, which is responsible for only about 2-4 percent of your day-to-day actions and perceptions.

It’s not your fault!

When I say that it’s not your fault, here’s what I mean: Due to your habits, you’ve become conditioned to stay in the same physical condition, salary or in the same mediocre relationship. An internal financial or physical “set point” is conditioned deep in your subconscious brain so that you don’t have to think about the day-to-day activities you need to do to maintain it.

Does this make sense to you?

Think about lottery winners: Why is it that within two or three years, almost all of them lose all their money? It’s because they are conditioned to be without money. Their do not change their subconscious set point of how much money they should have, therefore they revert to that point – it’s like an anchor on a boat!

Believe it or not, once any image, habit or belief is ingrained in your subconscious brain, you automatically seek out situations and behave in ways that resonate with that “internal image.” Now, if you currently don’t like the results you are witnessing with your physique, job, income or relationships, then guess what … you must break the old patterns and old conditioning that’s causing them!

How is this possible? Well, NASA has proven that breaking subconscious patterns takes 30-60 days of brain retraining.

You see, if you do not “re-train” your subconscious brain at the same time you make the decision to improve your health or financial situation, for example, you will within very short order return to your old weight and wealth patterns – and that’s why, despite the best intentions, the vast majority of New Year’s resolutions are not kept.

Simply put, there is a “cybernetic trigger” in your brain. It detects any change from your current situation, no matter what is, and it overrides your will power and forces you to behave in accordance with your old habits. Hence, the same results repeat themselves, because of the same thought patterns and behavioral patterns. It works exactly like the thermostat in your home that automatically picks up any change in room temperature and then makes corrections to return things to “normal.”

In essence, this automatic “trigger” causes you to rationalize why you’re not sticking with your diet or new financial plan, and basically forces you to revert to your old habits and patterns.

Think about this: When you break the word “rationalize” in two, you get “rational-lies.” The internal self-talk you catch yourself doing is automatic, and a result of the system doing its job to keep you at your “comfort zone,” even though it’s not what you want!

What does all this mean to you? Your income, your body and your relationships are only expressions of the internal self-image you have at a deep-rooted level… If you want to see permanent changes on the outside, you must retrain the mental image on the inside first.

So it adds up to this: If you truly want to make permanent changes in your life, it takes about 15 minutes a day of mental retraining for 30-60 days. The more you do this, the faster you’ll see results. The good news is that you can’t get a brain hernia if you overdo it.

The bottom line is this: When you are interested in your success, you’ll do what’s convenient. On the other hand, when you are committed to your success, you’ll do whatever it takes.

Positive Self-Talk for Effective New Year’s Resolutions

Hi Friends,

At the start of a brand-new year, we rigorously start setting fresh goals and forming New Year’s resolutions. Do you find yourself reflecting on last year’s resolutions and feeling disappointed that you did not see them through? One of the primary reasons for not achieving goals is negative self-talk.

Self-talk is internal conversation with yourself, like your own personal chatter. In order to be open to beneficial opportunities, and have a positive outlook on life, yourself, and others, you must avoid using negative self-talk.

Here are some examples of self-talk:

Negative Self-Talk

  • I can’t do this
  • I’m not good enough
  • I am too ______ (short, slow, untrained) to ever complete this goal

Positive Self-Talk

  • I am able to do or learn this
  • I am good enough
  • I will figure out how to compensate for ______ to achieve this goal

Make a conscious effort to monitor the way you process information. If you are constantly dwelling on past issues and using negative words to describe yourself, or your goals, you must make a habit of retraining your brain. Self-talk actually sends messages to your subconscious brain to form habits that coincide with what you are thinking.

If you continue to use the same negative self-talk, your subconscious will keep your habits aligned with the familiarity of past (and possibly bad) habits. On the flip side, using positive self-talk aids in reprogramming your brain to start forming goal-oriented habits. You will be on your way to realizing those New Year’s goals before you know it!

Five Myths About Change and Getting More Out of Your Life

Here are five myths about change and getting more out of your life:

Myth: Crisis is a powerful reason for change.

Reality: In a recent study, ninety percent of patients who’ve had quadruple heart bypass surgery continued to live a lifestyle that would worsen their condition and threaten their lives.

If you won’t change despite a life and death decision, then what?

Solution: Most people use “will power” and “persistence” to make the changes they want or need thinking that they are doing the best they can. After all that’s what we were taught.

Although it’s a gallant effort, we now know that permanent change takes reconditioning the brain to a new way of thinking and behaving. According to scientists, it takes approximately 30 days of daily reconditioning to create the new “neural networks” that are needed for long-term permanent changes in a person, before you can expect your business or life to get better, and stay that way.

It took time to create your beliefs and habits and it takes time to get rid of the ones that don’t serve you.

Myth: Change is motivated by fear or loss.

Reality: Absolutely not true! People almost always go into automatic denial of the bad things that might happen to their business or themselves no matter what the potential severity of their decisions and consistent actions are. It’s as natural as breathing for us to wait till the absolute last minute to change.

Solution: Creating compelling, positive visions of the future with a viable plan or solution is one of the best ways to inspire long term and permanent change. You must get emotionally involved with why you must change and then follow your plan. If you have a big enough reason to change, you may be more serious than if it’s just convenient. Having a buddy to help you is also a great way to ensure you follow through. In addition, create an environment around you to help support any new changes you seriously want to make and keep.

Myth: Facts are what we need to help us makes changes in our lives.

Reality: Our thinking is guided by our internal stories, narratives and habits of thought, not facts. When a new fact doesn’t fit our current internal map of reality—which we use to make sense of the world—we automatically reject it. Change is best achieved when emotions are involved and invoked quickly, not facts.

Solution: If you seriously want to make significant gains in any area of your life or business, you must get emotionally charged regardless of the doubt, fear, obstacle or size of your goal. Emotions are the brains fuel for making your goals a reality and as mentioned above, get support to help you along the way.

Myth: Gradual and small changes are the best way to go to achieve your desired goals or outcomes.

Reality: Radical, fast, and severe changes are often easier to sustain because of the quick results one derives. We thrive on fast gains and will do a lot to sustain them. When we see that our efforts have paid of fast, we are 100% more likely to continue vs slower to see results.

Solution: Make a specific decision on what you want to achieve and go full out executing a well thought out plan. Make sure you get the support you need to sustain the changes during and beyond the 30-day mark. And remember the change MUST happen on the inside first or it will be very short-lived.

Myth: We can’t change because are genetically predisposed to certain thoughts and have become “hardwired” early in life and have to many bad habits to change.

Reality: The latest findings suggest that only 50% of our “hard wiring” is genetically based and that our brains have extraordinary “plasticity” that can be molded and plied in new ways throughout our lives. We have the ability to grow complex new “neural networks” very fast that can help us create a new reality for our business and life no matter how young or old we are.

Solution: We can rewire our brains by creating new beliefs of what is possible for us to achieve. You can create new beliefs using affirmations, visualization techniques and meditation. You must then act upon our desired goals as if your life depended on getting great results regardless of the doubts or fears that we feel due to your old conditioning or past results.

What Does It Take To "Have It All" In Life?

Many people have asked me why I created my program, “Having It All,” and I realize that some people simply do not believe that it is possible to ‘have it all.’ Well, I am going to dispel that rumor once and for all.

If you are serious about learning what it takes, then read on and I’ll take you on a short journey. I’ll also share with you two incredible resources I’ve created – more on that later.

First, let’s suppose that at some point in the past, for whatever reason, by whichever means, there was a big bang, or there was not. It doesn’t really matter. All we know is somehow, our universe, solar system, galaxies, and planets are here, (and specifically our planet) and that’s where I’ll begin.

The number being thrown around right now is that our universe is at least 12.5 billion years old. The reason for the prelude is to set the stage for some thought and greater understanding.

While you and I do what we do every day, there are others who study the “what” and “how” of the universe. They are figuring out how it all began, what the galaxies are, and even closer to home, what our planets are and how they do what they do. How this occurred is irrelevant at this point. It just is. After all, we’re pretty sure the planets and galaxies were all here before us.

Instead, I like to think of our universe and planet Earth as our ‘playing field’, and our body and mind as ‘the vehicles’ we have been given to play on the field. So here we are, on this field, and we now have two choices:

  • One is to play on the field
  • Two is to be a spectator

Either way, the game is on, and you must choose whether you are going to play or watch. If you have chosen to play, let me explain to you that that there are people who study the playing field every day. They have discovered very specific natural laws that govern our universe, galaxies and planet.

If you are a serious player, knowing these laws, and understanding them would have a serious impact on how well you play the game, don’t you think?

There is one Great Law that suggests that everything we see (and can’t see) is made up of energy. There are also seven other major natural laws that work synergistically, and they allow the playing field to do what it does with such ease and perfection. Unfortunately, we have never been taught how to be in harmony with these laws.

It’s time we raise our awareness and begin playing at a higher level…

Let’s leave the laws alone for a moment, and discuss our body and mind.

For the most part, the physical body is easy to understand. We have studied it for over 6,000 years, and have learned a couple of tricks to keep it going faster and longer. We have five physical senses to help us decipher and understand the stimuli around us or on us.

The mind, however, is a little bit more complex. Scientists and theologians have discovered that we have six intellectual functions that are part of our conscious mind, and we also have three subconscious functions that assist us with much more complex issues and needs.

So here we are, playing the game, and I ask you this question, ‘How well do you understand the basic natural laws of the playing field, and how well do you understand the functions of the body and mind?’

For many people the answer is the same. Not very well. The reason we do not know the answers, is because we have never been taught to look at the whole picture. Very few people have studied and understood how to connect the whole deal in a way that it is easy to understand and apply.

I will suggest that in order to ‘Have It All’, you must first understand the basics for making it possible. Look around you and observe the perfection and precision in everything. There are no accidents. It all operates by exact order.

If you choose not to learn how all of it works, that is totally up to you. You are then choosing to play at a mediocre level, and not at the level you are capable of.

As I mentioned before, you make the decisions on whether to play or watch, and then, how well you want to play. Learning the playing field and how you function makes the game much more fun!

Not knowing the basic laws is like not understanding gravity. Not understanding yourself is like being a pilot who doesn’t know exactly how all of her plane’s instruments work. Would YOU get on that plane?

Even once we understand the playing field, and the optimum way to use our body and mind, we still need to learn the rules relating to the five different games being played… those games are called health, wealth, relationships, career, and spirituality.

The games are complex, especially if we aren’t taught the rules, angles and ways to win. Once again, if we choose to learn, the games become much more fun and easier to play.

I have invested more than 20 years into this exact research and have discovered the fastest and simplest way to have what I want. My deepest desire is that you discover a few things to make your journey outstanding.

All you must do is be open to learn how to play, and grow again like you did when you were a child.

Whatever you do, remember to create a masterpiece with your life. It is your choice!

A tale of two shoe salesmen

There is a tale about these two shoe salesmen who travel to a third world country in search of new business opportunities.

One man calls his wife the moment he lands, telling her, “Honey, I’m coming back home. There’s no hope here. Nobody here is wearing shoes, so there’s no one to sell to.” He boards the next flight home.

The second man calls his wife and says, “Honey, you wouldn’t believe what I found here. There is so much opportunity. No one here is wearing shoes. I can sell to the whole country!”

There’s opportunity everywhere. When we have a consciousness of expecting the magic to happen, it will happen. We’ll find the right people, we’ll move in the right circles, we’ll ‘bump’ into the right solutions. It all starts with that opening in the mind.
