Visualize the Life You Want

VisualizeSuccess at attaining any goal can be measured by how effectively you are able to move an idea from your conscious (imagination) to your subconscious (belief/action). That is why visualization is so important. When you visualize something in your conscious mind, your subconscious doesn’t know that it is only in your imagination. It watches the movie taking place in your thoughts and accepts that they are actually happening in that moment.

The subconscious mind is a captive audience for the movies we play in our head.

A good story evokes powerful mental images. Combining a good story with powerful mental images and a strong emotional response is the essence of visualization. It has the power to reshape our perception of reality, and once that happens, reality conforms to that new perception.

Once you practice visualization in your life, you will see its power firsthand:

Write down your goals. Visualization starts with an idea and a crystal clear picture of what you want. Be specific.

Create a vision board. At its core, a vision board is a set of visual images that represent the story you are telling yourself about who are and what your life is like. It’s a way of getting clear on the life you want to create for yourself. To help you create a vision board, see my book, The Complete Vision Board Kit. It comes with a DVD, sample vision board and tools to help you create your vision board.

Act as if. State your goals in the present tense like you have already achieved them. One of the most important elements of creation is the ability to see yourself already in possession of the materialistic or physical state you are creating, prior to actual evidence of such.

Take action. Don’t just visualize. For a plant to grow, it’s not enough to simply plant it and wait. You have your work to do too.

Practice repetition. Look at the images on your vision board every day. Repetitiveness of vision combined with your associated emotions will develop your power to visualize and achieve your goals.

I have been doing all of this in the Having it All program and I have been reaching my goals in the time lines!!! Amazing. I love this:)

  4. I write out dreams, goals, and deadlines, but have a hard time visualizing them – Rather I “FEEL” them. Most things effect in an experiencial way . I need to act it out and feel it. This morning I was talking to people from my heart and what I have to offer to help them. Of course no one was there, but I was practicing, feeling, and thinking it…
How can I get more visual?
    Thanks!

  5. No matter the circumstances, anything is possible as long as we have faith in the unseen. Not just hope…FAITH & PRAISE! I believe… A good example? Jesus Christ.

  6. Love it!

  7. Thanks for the great article John! I always come back to your books, videos, and website for reinforcement! Incidentally, the “The Answer” is phenomenal and puts in place a legitimate understanding of the Law of Attraction and the power of the universe and the spiritual side. Thanks for a great read! Excellent advice whether you are visualizing big or small !!

  9. Thank you for this! Your complete vision board kit is EXCELLENT and I am going study it in detail. Interestingly, before purchasing the kit, I was manifeting a bunch of lovely butterflies and one that I had never seen before and was nowhere to be found. A blue butterfly! I thought it so beautiful, and after I obtained the kit and opened the picturesque vision board example, THERE was my blue butterfly! It’s showing me that I can be on the right track if I apply all of the principles which you stated above, John. I realize my issue is that I am not very specific and more vague in the abstract due to time and circumstance. I need to narrow down and detail what it is I want to manifest. Thank you for making me think of this and realize EVERYTHING is possible and how to go about this process the right away. With blessings and gratitude!

  10. I like this.

We go where our vision is.

I believe it helps if you have set an intended date for the fulfillment of the goal together with ‘milestones’ along the way. I also so know it helps to have ‘evidence’ of the goal achivement in your visualisation eg shaking hands with the estate agent and being handed the keys to the new house you have as a goal. Even more importantly, inject a good dose of the emotions that you would feel when the event actualy takes place. This worked very well for me when I was planning to emigrate from South Africa to New Zealand, when I wanted to own a new motorcycle, when I wanted to shift from the north island to the paradisical south island and so many other goals. I’m now working on my business goals – seting up my own consultancy and everytime I do a visualisitation, it gets easier and clearer because the neural pathway has already been created.

    Dear John Assaraf

Thank for you life advice, but I am writing to say now matter how hard you try or how are you believe or trust, it still does not work. I have tried everything you have said in your videos etc. and my life is still a struggle from point A to B. The vision boards etc… The Secret is just a bunch of words flung together to make people feel better about themselves.

I want to feel like and success, now I have told you what I want. I am 40 years old and pushed to nothing, I have no energy left to try again and believing again that things will go better.

    All the best

    • Hi Izac,

Everything that John is saying DOES WORK… but you MUST believe in it for it to happen! Believe it in your CORE! It sounds to me that you have given up. Find your faith! Find your belief , pick yourself up again and go for your dreams! And remember the words of a wise Master who once said: There is no try! Do or do not!!!! (Master Yoda)

  13. Dear John
The affirmation, visualization and Winning the Inner Game of Business Success (BTS), because of all these, I started again looking for opportunity through internet and with little search I just got a very good opportunity, I can’t even remember how I got it. (The long struggle of searching internet business is over). I have my Vision Board with beautiful pictures of my Goals and some I wrote them down and reading them to myself. I meditate and visualizing daily and they looks more really now than ever before. My appreciation of thanks and blessings goes to you John. Once again, Thank you. Sigrid.

  14. Great article! I like how clearly you outline the reasons and steps for successful visualization. Including the action part is so important. Wallace Wattles says, “By thought the thing you want is brought to you. By action you receive it.” I think many people are not clear on that part of the process, but the inner “work” does come first.

  15. I’ve done the above, but my problem is that after a while I get bored visualizing and meditating on or for the same goals. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone have any solutions? 🙂

    I would appreciate any insights.

    • I discover the same thing. And then I realize I haven’t received, and I haven’t really let go and gotten out of God’s way. I’m still trying to figure out how to make it happen. Every time I revisit the goal, I’m telling the universe that I really don’t believe it’s going to happen.

Receive it. Believe it. Let it go.

    • Your goals should be exciting to you, and evoke strong positive emotion so that every time you visualize/meditate on them it excites you and draws you towards them and them towards you. Do your goals inspire you?

      Cheers Nathan

Speed of implementation is the key . There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. How quickly we respond by putting the idea into action is the key. Imagination creates the ideas along with the LOA, than all it takes is emotional movement and action to get a result eh cheers John E Regan

  24. I agree with every word. I tried the vision board and manifested within 3 months a purchase of a house beyond my dreams, bought a new sport volvo which I realy wanted but it never crossed my mind to realy have it. I sticked its picture in front of my eyes and wrote above it “this is my new car by october 2010” (never mind it was on november) .I would like to mantion that not long ago if someone would have told me that this is going to be my reality soon, I would have start to laugh!

  25. I have tried so much to write my desires and to make a board, but except very small cases, noting has worked. What am I doing wrong????????????

  26. Your Facebook status update (where you posted the link to this article) today comes at a great time for me. I’ve just launched a mastermind group and during next week’s meeting we will all be creating our own vision boards. It’s something I’ve been procrastinating about doing – NOW I’ll finally get it done!

  33. Great information. This is a simple process but oftentimes we think because it is simple it is not important.

  34. BRILLIANT! Most of the activities & things have already come to fruition on my dream board!! I’ve been watching movies come to reality all my life!!! Love the power of visualization!
