Affirmation Best Practices

AffirmationsAffirmations—clear, definitive statements declaring something is so—solidify your ideas of where you want to go or how you want to change. Without exception, positive affirmation is the key to all advancement and achievement. The most powerful and successful affirmations are the ones we design around our goals in the areas of our life that are most important to us.

The key to effective affirmations is that they must be bold, clear, positive and stated in the present tense. Get absolute clarity on what you want to create.

Here are some other affirmation best practices:

Own your affirmations—the feelings and associations you have with these words. Get into the feelings and emotions of your affirmations by experiencing your statements as if they are already true. Our outside world is a reflection of our internal programming. Always.

Repetition is the mother of learning. When you first begin your affirmations, your old beliefs will fire up. This is normal. Just return to your affirmation and you will change the hard-wiring in your brain.

Don’t quit. Act like it’s true. Feel like it’s true. Stay positive and confident that everything you are doing will produce results because the repetition of the affirmation is teaching your brain how to think.

Use negative self-talk to identify barriers to your success.

Once you get the hang of it, you can actually use your negative self-talk to catch any negative, non-supportive beliefs that are blocking you from achieving success in your goals.

What you put out is what you get back. When you become more, you will have more. you give your attention, energy and focus, is what you will attract into your life.

  2. Hey John! Thanks so much for posting this on affirmations. I am a single, disabled but hopeful mom. I have the vision boards, read the universal laws and in general stay positive. This all gets really weird at times and it can make me feel like I am being foolish. However, small things have once again begun to manifest that I have asked for and with very little delay if any.

Not that you would have the time to respond but it would be nice to know if this means the larger requests are not far behind. I seem to only be able to manifest on a small scale. If the more you give the more you get is true then I should be wealthy in all areas of my life right now. I really need my connection with the universe to be heard, to know that I am not alone. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Thanks so much for reading. It would mean so much to me if you would pass some wisdom my way. Thanks, Janet

affirmations as clear,as they can be….john,my truth is the stuff about about the subconscious, well maybe, theres a lot unknown in this world, unknows were no conscious of,but which happen, for good or ill…..we can visualise better

  5. The BTS program has been remarkable for me. Not only are the positive affirmations clear and concise, but it shines a light on the negative self talk that has been whispering to me for years.
I “hear ” them more clearly and rid them as soon as I can. It’s not a “one time” thing, but I keep practicing to replace the positive affirmations in the vacuum where there old negative thoughts once resided. I have more “rooms” to clear out…
    Thanks John!

  6. Thank you for the reminder!

  7. OK I KNOW IS THE TRUETH BUT WHAT CAN I DO WHEN THE CURRENT REALITY SHOWS UP???? AND YOUR MIND BEGAINS TO TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL NOT GET WHAT YOU WANT,
    THAKS

    • I’m with you Merlin. I use affirmations all the time, all day long in fact. Yet, today, my reality of no gas or grocery money and 2 weeks left till payday is stronger than my belief that I will have great success and fortune some day.

      • Traceyh1011 says:

oh Lou, I do understand your comment as I get caught up as well, but I realized that it’s anxiety talking in my head. When I am not anxious, I KNOW that things will improve and I somehow get the clarity of thought to ACT on how to create change. I get on the phone to find part time jobs, I call food pantries, I sell old fancy dresses, etc. Sometimes we are so “worn down” by the situations we’ve created for ourselves, that we fail to see the possibilities in front of us. Best luck to both of us!

    • Affirm “All is well. Everything is working out for my highest good and out of this situation only good will come and I am safe!!

  8. love this John, positive reinforcement is great and really helpful for me!

  9. Prof Wagenfuehr says:

The ANTS- automatic negative thoughts are easy to hear in your mind at first, once you are used to recognizing them and changing them to the positive, you can actually predict when they will occur depending on the situation or experience and stop them before they can act negatively on you. It’s fun once you get the hang of it.

  10. Like this John,

Positive Mindset = Positive attitude = Positive Actions.

How do i use my negative self talk? it seems to hold me back as a writer

    • Positive Mind says:

I think you need to stand as a guard between what you say to your mind and your mind and prevent any negative to enter your mind, hold it,reverse it and make it positive

    • I often stop negative thoughts in its tracks by speaking the *opposite* out loud. Like if the thought in my head is “What if no-one signs up for my workshop?” Then right in that moment, I say out loud “I’m so excited that my workshop is totally sold out with enthusiastic attendees who can’t wait to hear what I have to share with them!” and right in that moment I envision that happening… like I visualize people coming into the room, shaking my hand and telling me they can’t wait for the day to get started. That’s what works for me. Hope that helps.

  15. “Once you get the hang of it, you can actually use your negative self-talk to catch any negative, non-supportive beliefs that are blocking you from achieving success in your goals.”

This is an incredibly powerful tool. By utilizing my negative self-talk I have been able to overcome amazing barriers to my success and now that they are gone, my life is completely different!
